What user does the Site Tools "Log in to Admin Panel" button for WordPress use?

The button located at Site Tools -> WordPress -> Install & Manage -> Log in to Admin Panel button for WordPress is a convenient feature that allows you to quickly access your WordPress site’s admin panel. Instead of having to go to your website’s admin panel login page and input credentials, the button logs you and opens the wp-admin panel in a new browser tab automatically for you.

The Default User

By default, the Log in to Admin Panel button logs you in as the user that appears at the top of the list of all administrator users when sorted alphabetically. This means that if you have multiple administrator users on your WordPress site, the one with the username that comes first in alphabetical order will be the default user for this functionality.

Changing the Default User

The username of the default user cannot be changed directly. This is because WordPress usernames are designed to be permanent once they are created. However, there is a workaround if you want to change the user that the Log in to Admin Panel button logs you in as.

To do this, you need to create a new WordPress user with a username that comes before all other usernames in alphabetical order. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin panel. You can do this by clicking on the Log in to Admin Panel button in Site Tools -> WordPress -> Install & Manage for the respective site.
  2. Navigate to the Users section. Once you’re in the admin panel, find the Users option in the left-hand menu and click on it.
  3. Click on the “Add New” button. This will take you to a page where you can create a new user.
  4. Fill in the user details. Enter a username that comes before all other usernames in alphabetical order. Fill in the other required fields, such as email address, first name, last name, and password.
  5. Set the role to Administrator. In the Role dropdown menu, select Administrator.
  6. Click on the “Add New User” button. This will create the new user.

Once you’ve done this, the Log in to Admin Panel button will now log you in as the new user you’ve just created, as it is now the first user in alphabetical order.

Remember, it’s important to keep your WordPress site secure, so make sure to use a strong password for your new user and keep your login details safe.
