How to change your website's IP address?

An Internet Protocol (IP) address is a unique numerical label assigned to each device participating in a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication. It serves two main functions: identifying the host or network interface, and providing the location of the host in the network. In the context of websites, an IP address is essentially the digital address of your website on the internet, allowing other devices to find and interact with it.

Shared vs Dedicated IP

There are two types of IP addresses that your website can have: shared and dedicated. A shared IP address is one that is used by multiple websites. In this setup, your website shares the same IP address with several other websites hosted by the same server. On the other hand, a dedicated IP address is exclusively used by a single website. No other website shares this IP address, making it unique to your website.

Benefits of a Dedicated IP

Having a dedicated IP address comes with several benefits. First, you can access the website by just typing its IP address in your web browser. Many third-party services that require use of APIs also require your website to have a dedicated IP associated with it. Lastly, it can provide a slight advantage in terms of SEO, as search engines prefer websites with dedicated IPs.

How to Order a Dedicated IP

If you wish to change your website’s IP address to a dedicated one, you can order this service from your Client Area. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Log in to your Client Area.
  2. Navigate to the Marketplace tab.
  3. Scroll down until the Additional Services section, where you will find the Dedicated IP option.
  4. Click on it and choose from the popup the website for which you want to order the Dedicated IP. Click Continue.
  5. On new page that opens confirm the choice with the ADD button and complete the order.

The dedicated IP activation may take up to 2 days, but in most cases is completed within a couple of hours. Once the service is activated, you will be notified on your administrative email and your Client Area > Home page.

By following these steps, you can easily change your website’s IP address from shared to dedicated, and enjoy the benefits that come with having a dedicated IP.
